What does it mean to be a Special Educator? What does it mean to be a special educator? This question arises frequently in the world of education. There are many people who ask themselves this question every day. One could say that a special educator is an individual who has special interest and a passion for primarily interacting with children with disabilities. The special educator would also have knowledge of certain disabilities and the way they can influence children differently. Special education teachers need to be able to effectively teach both the regular and special need children in the same manner with some modifications. The concept of inclusion classrooms could have came about by the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act. This requires for all children to be held to a particular set of standards and must also show constant improvement to include children with disabilities. This implies all children learn and retain new material in the same exact manner as their peers which most educators would argue. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) states that all children with disabilities are to be allowed to learn with children without disabilities. Both acts are in place to facilitate optimal learning and retention from all children however, the problem still stands. How does one hold a child with disabilities to the same standards of regular education children? If all children are supposed to be on the same academic track and learn the same, then why do we even have special education classrooms to begin .If all children really did learn with the same process and rate, the term, special education, might not exist. Most inclusion classrooms only work now because the special needs child normally has the help of an aide along with much modification to both assignments and assessments. It would be necessary to have one on one teaching or small group, at a minimal, to get children where they need to be according to the state
