What Does It Mean To Be Called Essay

What does it mean to “be called”? Almost every believer faces this question at some point or another during their journey. It is a thought that can bring about excitement and joy, or even anxiety and fear. Most would define “being called” as a specific individual’s direct revelation from God of their future occupation. This is, however, simply incorrect. Contrary to popular belief, everyone is called.
Every single one of us has received a charge from God, that may or may not be specific. According to Jeff Maness, author of Because You’re Called, we tend to foolishly concern ourselves only with God’s calling for our entire life, rather than recognizing that God has a daily calling for our lives, through which our life’s calling is revealed to us. Whether you are called into full-time, vocational ministry, or to simply minister to those around you during your every day “nine to five” job, Jeff stresses us that each of us is, first and foremost, called to Christ through salvation. We are then called to change through sanctification (The process in which Jeff states that we are giving God our body in daily sacrifice. Finally, he stresses that we are obligated to serving the Church. We have all been given specific

The reason this prayer has impacted me so greatly, is that it is so unique in its humility. Unlike many prayers we hear today, asking for blessings, or guidance, or direction, it puts the focus back on God, and removes our own comfort or convenience from the equation. And that is exactly what following God should be like! I love this prayer because It gives one-hundred percent of the glory to God regardless of the outcome of the calling. “God put me where I can do You the most good.” This is a prayer I will most likely be praying on a daily basis for many years to

We are all called to fill multiple roles during our life. In chapters 5-8 of God at Work, Veith (2002) explains the importance of each of these vocations and how they intermix with each other. In looking at each of these, it is important to note that one vocation does not carry more power than another. Veith explains how God works through us in each of the vocations of worker, family member, citizen, and church member to love and serve our neighbor.…

We must serve our awesome God. When God came to earth as a man, Jesus, he didn’t just enjoy it, he worked, he served others. There are so many examples in the Bible of serving others. 1 Peter 4:10, Matthew 20:28, Proverbs 11:25, 1 Corinthians 9:19. My favorite two verses that explain servantship so well are Acts 20:35, “....…

At my most vulnerable, I was having to fill the role of teacher and leader, teaching people how to walk with others through a difficult situation. I learned how important it is to be authentic. I had to let them be part of the grieving and healing process, showing weakness, strength, and reliance on God. My prayer is that God used this journey as an example for others, that they would see our source of strength and hope, that life could again be filled with joy, and most importantly that they would see Jesus through…

I like the quote "Expect to be called a stand patter, but don’t be a stand patter. Expect to be called a demagogue, but don’t be a demagogue," in the speech given by Calvin Coolidge at Massachusetts. It might have a different meaning but to me, it means not to be what people call us. This is a common problem in the world today. We live by what people call us; our every steps and breaths are determined by people.…

The true definition of the word country is: and nation with its own government, occupying a particular territory. To people from other places, America is just another country full of audacious idiots. To others it is a place where anyone can become anything. America, to Americans, is home, it's a place where families come together, and have the rights to do as they wish. To be an American means having pride in where you are from and knowing where you stand.…

My essay states what being an American means to people from historical text, and what it means to someone I interviewed and myself. The key that I was able to figure out was that we all believe in the same thing. That being an American is much more than what anyone thinks. Being an American means knowing that you have a decent shot at life, and knowing that your opinion can be heard, without the agitation of hearing a knock on your door. To complete my research I read and annotated eight articles about what it means to be an American means; and from those eight I only chose two of the best articles to write about.…

My Definition of Ambition As a child growing up on the South-Side of chicago, I never really understood how people had the energy to stay in school and graduate or go to work each day. I honestly didn’t really think there was much after 8th grade, except for dead ends of life. In reality, I believed that there was no way for someone to achieve anything unless they we’re born into an environment where they were provided with the materials needed to get there. I also believed that the way you were born, whether you were born rich or poor, that’s the way you will live for the rest of your life. How many 12 year olds really think this way?…

It is understandable that everyone has a different view on the world. At an early age I was asked what I want to be when I get older. Of course my answer was I do not know. Dual Calling of Christians. Christians have two callings, one to Christ to be part of his body, and one to the world as citizens, neighbors, co-workers, etc. This duality is shown in Romans 13:1-7 where Paul reminds everyone to place themselves under government authority while reminding them that all authority comes from God. Each of these areas has its own government and uses distinct ends and means when serving that unit. There is a distinction between heavenly things and earthly things, and between righteousness before God and righteousness before fellow humans.…
