What Does Honors College Mean To You Essay

“Some people dream of success, while others wake up and work hard at it,” said Winston Churchill. I believe this sums up my life perfectly. While others only dream of being successful, I work hard to become successful. I consider myself to be a perfect fit for the Honors College at UIC. I reckon certain things about myself would help enhance the Honors College community.

When I think of the Honors College, I think of leaders, dedicated students, and role models. All those traits describe me. I am a dedicated student, I do what I have to do to get things done. I have worked hard during my junior year of high school and moved from number four in my class to number two. Also, I always focus on school no matter what is going on in my life. Within a year and a half, I lost my last living grandparent, my aunt, my uncle, and my family lost our house. Throughout all that I managed to keep my grades up, be on the freshmen volleyball team, and get a job to help my family out with the bills.

When doing group work, I am almost always in charge. For example, I am the leader of my homecoming project group in my marketing class. I am also the leader/captain of my team for the ProStart Culinary Competition that I have participated in junior and senior year. My team members believe that I am the best candidate to take care of all the paperwork and make sure everything that needs to be done gets done. I would also like to believe that I am someone people can look up to. I am a generally nice person, people can come to me with their problems, and I am someone people can trust. I volunteer at a food bank of sorts through a club that I am a part of at my school and I am supposed to be coaching a middle school volleyball team at my local recreation center. All these traits seem to me like a good role

I believe that the University of Georgia Honors Program would open up countless doors for me throughout my UGA career, and it would allow me to thrive and contribute to a smaller environment of more dedicated and passionate students. Coming from a small, very academically advanced private school, I am very familiar with and fond of this type of environment. I also believe that my high school experience, in such a unique and diverse school, would allow me to contribute greatly to the honors community. The Honors Program’s access to smaller class sizes would allow me to be in closer contact with my teachers, something that I benefited from greatly in high school.…
