What Does Falling Sparrows Mean

In the short film “falling sparrows” directed by Murray Keane, the director simultaneously uses techniques to portray the idea that younger people are vulnerable to mature situations to the audience(New Zealand teens). The techniques I think were most effective towards portraying this idea throughout the film are imagery, music, camera work and acting.

the technique of imagery/Symbolism is used to portray the idea of younger people are vulnerable to mature situations an example of this is when 5 sparrows are shown dead on the ground and one is shown as being shot this links to the movie title “falling sparrows” as well as foreseeing the youngest boy “blue dragon” Cedric’s death by a gun the symbol of 6 boys 6 bullets shown when Cedric is hiding from the English boys as they storm the nazi bunker. this is another example of symbolism used by the director to …show more content…
the acting of Cedric aka joseph main and the camera work portray the idea in a light that engages the audience. when Cedric comes out of his hiding place with a gun the camera closes up on his face to engage the emotions of the actor and the audience as well as when the camera swings back to show Cedric's full body in the centre of the shot showing his dominance with his new mindset towards the violence in the situation this is where Cedric comes across as a “confident” character another way the director was using the acting in a polar opposite way causing Cedric to come across more vulnerable and weak to convince the audience of the idea of “ younger people are the most vulnerable to “violent situations”“ the scene that did this is when Cedric is running up the hill out of breath be bossed around by his sergeant and he starts to begin to walk up the hill again when he looks around searching for what's making a noise and to his horror he faces a tractor coming towards
