Being out of breath, sweaty, and able to hear my heartbeat in my ears wasn't something I used to strive for. Now, running brings me joy. I used to wonder why and how some people could just enjoy exercise. I thought of it as uncomfortable and time consuming. But now I understand. I began running in high school when I joined the track team, and I continue to run and work out regularly as a hobby. As well as keeping me in good shape, it helps me unwind at the end of a long day or week and keeps me in a better mood. I have come to find out that there is a reason for this improvement in my mood. Exercise is beneficial to both the mind and body, and many people who exercise regularly find themselves in a better mood and exhibit a better over all well-being. …show more content…
Exercise burns fat and calories which can lead to weight loss and a healthy looking body. As we know, exercise tones and builds muscle, but it also does this for bones. Our bones are stressed when we run, and this triggers a response in the body to make them stronger. If we don’t exercise our muscular skeletal system regularly, it becomes weak with age (US National Library of Medicine). This makes us susceptible to diseases like osteoporosis, which is bone tissue deterioration. Osteoporosis causes pain, fractures, and can lead to loss of physical height. Aerobic exercise like running improves lung capacity and cardiovascular fitness, which are two things you can’t see. According to the Harvard Heart Letter, Dr. Thomas Lee states that long term studies of elite athletes indicate that they have above average life expectancies and low risk for heart disease.When the heart is fit, it can pump blood and nourishment much more efficiently.
