I had received the package, but rather than receiving one, I got two packages instead. I love Fannie May’s chocolate covered strawberries so much, that I don’t usually share them. However, since I got two boxes, I thought about how much of a pig I would have been if I ate them all. I remembered that day I had a bible study. I am new to this church and don’t hardly know anyone. I decided I would bring it to bible study for the people instead. I went to the bible study and gave the box to the pastor to distribute it after the segment. Once, bible study was over, she had announced to everyone that I had brought some chocolate covered strawberries in and they could help themselves. We didn’t end up coming back on time, and the next person to relieved me was already there waiting. I wasn’t able to finish up all of my tasks and I was worried that my time had run. However, my reliever told me not to worry, that she would finish all of my tasks for me. I was truly grateful for her generosity and felt obligated to do something in return. I couldn’t wait for the following week to bring a something as a small token of my appreciation. Once, that day came, I gave her the small gift, and she was so happy and gave me a big hug. Then, she started to over excitingly talking to me about other coworkers, what she used to do and other things. I was really taken back, I had no idea that she was such a talker and had a lot to say. I guess my small gesture had broken the ice between us and now we are friends. This act of kindness in the text is referred to as reciprocal altruism theory, helping someone out because this gesture would be reciprocated back and that’s the benefit of it.
Lastly, there was a family, a mother and her two boys that were coming out of TGIF Friday. I held the door for them and told them to have a great night and thanked them for stopping by. One of the little boy came over toward me and gave me a hug. I was shocked, I smiled and bent down to reciprocate the hug.
