What Does Enlisting Mean To Me Essay

Decent Essays
If college was no longer an option after high school, I would enlist in the military. Being in the military will teach me the skills need to both save myself and my countrymen in the future.
Although, enlisting is a second choice, it is by no means a less important one.

I have always had pride in being an American, but I will have the chance to prove myself as one. I know that it is by no means easy to be trained in the military, but I am determined to succeed in any career path I choose. Helping others is a prevailing theme in my life and joining the military will be the ultimate chance to help others. I will be able to travel and gain exposure to human lives outside of the United States. After my discharge, I will either further my education

Conscription World War 1 was one of the first major global conflicts. The war began on the 28th of July 1914 and ended on the 11th of November 1918. The First World War was a milestone in the history of our world and was a horrific term of events. During the time of World War 1 Billy Hughes, the Prime Minister of Australia called a referendum on conscription, a process where men around Australia would be forced to attend war at random. This was due to the limited numbers of men fighting in war, however, many people had different arguments for the process and conscription began to have many effects on men during and after the war.…

Stanley McChrystal suggests in his essay, Lincoln’s Call to Service – and Ours, that a program be created called, Universal National Service. This program will create millions of jobs for individuals between the ages of 18 to 28. McChrystal believes that this program “will change the current cultural expectation that service is only the duty of those in uniform” (564). I agree with the need for such a program and feel that it would greatly benefit our country. If this program is created it will allow young individuals to get a feel for military life.…

A veteran to me is a patriotic, unselfish, brave, and courageous person, who would sacrifice time from their families to serve and protect our nation. As Jeff Miller once said, “The willingness of America’s Veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude.” Veterans from every country have served throughout many wars. They have put their blood, sweat, and effort into doing the right and beneficial thing for their nation. Being a veteran means not only to serve in the military, but it means to have the selflessness and courage to go off to war to ensure the freedom of the nation.…

The U.S. Army had been under a magnifying glass since the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. As a result, the Secretary of the Army and the Army Chief of Staff gave directives that the Commanding General of the Training and Doctrine Command lead a review of the Army as a profession from changes that had taken place since the beginning of the wars. The Army as a Profession of Arms is still not defined concretely. My perception of the Army as a Profession of Arms is that we are citizens, volunteers, trained to eliminate the enemy, and entrusted with a moral ethic and duty to serve and protect the rest of the populous of our great nation. We, as volunteers in our profession, have answered a calling that we are committed to something greater and…

Every year we celebrate Veterans Day on November 11th. Veterans Day is a day where we honor the men and women, dead or alive who served in the military. There are four different branches of the military; Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marines, and each branch plays a unique role in our country. When I discovered the benefits of the military, like free college after 36 months, or amazing Medicare, I thought, “I should join the military!” When I hear the word military, the first thing that comes to my mind is “justice”.…

The United States military has been recruiting immigrants with specialized skills in health care and foreign languages, to serve in exchange for American Citizenship for hundreds of years. By lowering the standards of acceptance into the military, like lowering aptitude test scores, and a higher percentage of recruits without a high school diploma, the U.S. military has turned to recruiting noncitizens of the United States. But, by allowing non-citizens of the United States to serve in the U.S. military, concerns many with the safety of national security. Sometimes called "green card soldiers," noncitizen recruits can achieve expedited citizenship in as little as six months in return for military service. For other noncitizens, the naturalization process can take years, added with high fees.…

What is life but the subtle putrescence of passion, married longingly to the increase of inhibition? I have pondered this question for some time. That, and this, "Is our actions products of our being choosing, on its own accord, to action and order? Or, are our self-attributed actions products of our biases, and infused with the repercussions of the machinations wrought by those who have come before?" For example, say I volunteer for conscription.…
