What Does Adversity Mean To You Essay

The closest thing I have ever had to a sister was my cousin from my mom’s side of the family. Since birth, we were inseparable. We would always look forward to our weekend long sleepovers, family parties, holiday gatherings, and truly any time we were able to spend with one another. She had always been one of my closest friends and practically my sister. Due to being around her constantly, I did experience a lot of grief because of how perfect her life always seemed to be, especially when compared to my own. Anything she wanted, she got and she was always involved in amusing activities with her family. Walking into her big beautiful house with a big white fence, luscious green lawn, friendly neighborhood, a dog who greeted you at the door, …show more content…
The only thing I can do is recognize that I am content now and it is because I evolved my mindset based around the simple fact that all struggles bring progress. All that I experienced, gave me wisdom and contributed to my knowledge of life and the world around me in a positive manner. Now I see people who may have more than me and do not compare my situation to them; I can only focus on bettering my life, doing the best I can, improving within myself every day, and remembering that no matter what I could never live anyone else’s life and I am proud of the unique journey I was blessed …show more content…
Even when we look at someone and envy their life, there is always more to them than this perfection we see masking what is truly going on. The reality is that every single one of us is struggling with something, whether we make it apparent or not. Perhaps this person has good looks, an abundance of optimal clothes, the most expensive car, a seemingly perfect relationship, whatever they may possess that we idolize, but we neglect the likeliness of them also having a rotten soul or could be dealing with all these issues in themselves and within their lives we know nothing about. We never know what someone could be dealing with and that is why we must appreciate the things we do have, the life we are blessed with, and even the struggles we endure because those hard times make us stronger; these experiences bring us to places of growth and elevation we otherwise would have never known existed or seen possible for ourselves. Ultimately, we end up exactly where we should be because the collective experiences we attain are always happening for a reason. Nothing is ever random and everything eventually always connects. Despite the differences in my family when compared to others, I appreciate what we have. We are not perfect; in fact, we are actually far from that. However, the family I have is the one meant for me. They have taught me a lot and always instilled in me the value of hard work because we did not just get things

At one point, I remembered my parents having to sell almost everything we owned in order to pay our bills, but somehow they managed to keep a smile on their faces. I never truly realized show serious the situation was until I grew older. I always wanted to help, but I was too young at the time to make any significant impact. Their positivity throughout their hardships however, impacted me to this day and influenced me to look at obstacles as a foundation to build on.…

Gazing at the grizzly bear depicted on the postcard provokes a myriad of fateful memories, and an experience which has forever altered my mentality and lifestyle. As a Boy Scout with an addiction for adventure, I craved to escape the confines of my home and pursue the open wilderness. With the companionship of my childhood best friend, I took the first flight to the last frontier: Alaska. Intending to experience as much nature as possible, we immediately forged into the unfamiliar yet beautiful Alaskan forest. Looking up from the base of the mountain, we saw a distant peak and summiting that peak became our only goal.…

As I sit and think of what a family consist of, I am reminded of how gracious God is. Without going into too much detail, I was raised in four different families types, that included: nuclear family, foster family, step-family and a single parent family. Idealy one would think that I had no concept of what a perfect family is. Thankfully, through Christ, I was able understand what a biblical family looks like. There is not a complete secret code manual of what a family should be and how a family should work.…

The style of the popular novel has changed with every new decade, but one theme has consistently lingered in the history of literature: facing the unknown. Life is entirely an unknown, which was something all too familiar to Bret Harte and Stephen Crane. These two authors are known for works in which the main character or characters must push through a point of true adversity, be it mental or physical. The resolution to a theme such as facing the unknown has always been simple in word alone; it can be described as "adaptation".…

As a child, having rules to follow wasn’t unheard of with my family. There was always a way to behavior with friends/family, at school, at home and out in the street. Often I found myself getting into trouble because I didn 't listen and also the fact that I always found some kind of way to slipping out of having to doing something that I knew I was supposed to do. But out of all the people in my family my mom was the strictest. When expectations set high, not meaning them meant my siblings and I typical had a week long cleaning punishments along with handing over all toys, games, and light up sneakers; about three times a week this happened to me.…
