What do you think defines learning? Is learning solely from a textbook or passing an exam? The word, learn, by definition, is to gain knowledge or skill by studying, practicing, being taught, or experiencing something (“Dictionary”). Typically when people think about learning in school they think about the courses they take, the grades they earn, and what their professors taught them. However, learning extends outside the classroom environment. In today’s society learning has taken a turn in order to encompass more than just reading, writing, and arithmetic. College is usually the time in which a student goes to become educated in a certain field of study with hopes of pursuing a career after school in that field. Yet, with the increase in expectations by employers to be the most versatile student as possible, the college student has had to decrease the amount of time learning the given material of their curriculum. Instead, they learn about themselves in a different manner by focusing on building their resume and gaining job experience. The foundation of learning changed immensely with the increase of technology. Students no longer need to go to a library, find a dictionary, and look up a definition; they now need to open up the web browser and type in what they are looking for into Google. Knowledge and information is accessible to everyone that has the ability to go on the Internet, which changes the way students learn. Students have the capability to study an entire…
