It usually depends on your client and coworkers. One thing that I have been aware of is that there are a lot of crazy therapists out there. Most therapists go into the field to figure themselves out. Some are aware of the own problems and are working on it, but the majority of therapist that I worked with have no clue of their own dysfunction. As I therapist, my career is very rewarding. I enjoyed helping people and every day I learned something new. This is a career that not only I can make a living from, but also it is something that is meaningful to me. In order to be actually happy, you need to be able to find a career that you love. Many people based their career choices on how much is being paid; doing that will only cause regrets. With the career that I have chosen, it aligns with my values to be kind and compassionate towards other and also improve the lives of other. It’s a great feeling to know that I can make a difference in someone’s life. One thing I wish I would had known is learning about my limit when working with a client. There are some changes a client is not ready for in their life and all and do is help them be aware of what needed to be done in order to improve. I wish I could help them change their behavior, but sometimes people are stuck on their own ways. For example, I have seen many parents come to me asking me to “fix their kids”, but the thing is their kids are not the problem, they are.
