My racial identity is African American but I defined myself as Somalia American. In this paper, I will discuss my racial identity as of Somalia American and my religion identity which is Muslim. I will be discussing how I became aware of my racial identity and how that had an impact in my life and how I felt about it. also, I will be discussing What is feeling be a Muslim woman in American and the way Muslim are portrayed in the media. I will be sharing my background of came from a rich family in Somalia and now being from a middle class family in American. Also, being raised in a single mother household with a sick child.

I had my first culture shocking because it was snowing and I have never ever seen white snow. The lady that was responsible for us to make sure that we got on the right airplane and make sure we ate foods. The lady was not African American but she was a white person and my brother who was the older one keep tell me not too true her or take anything that she gives us because he didn’t true her or he didn’t believe that she gives us food that was culturally appropriate. When I first saw her I was confused because she was very light skin and we were brown skin. I have had a problem with her skin color but I never saw a person who was light than my brother in Somalia or Ethiopia back then. My entire life had changed because I came from a rich lifestyle to a middle-class lifestyle which included my mother working five days just make ended meet. We lived in Minneapolis the Riverside Plaza apartment where now only Somalia live in those apartments but back in those days mix of people used call those apartments. For the first 60 days,’ my sibling and I didn’t leave our apartment because my mother would go to work come home and make dinner or lunch for us. Then my mother gets us enrolled into school and this was my first experience where I found out that I different from every other people that want to that school. My brother and sister were in a different school than I was because they were a grade higher
