What Do Goosebumps And Mostly Ghostly Have In Common

What does Goosebumps, and Mostly Ghostly have in common? They are best to read in a Candle lit room under your blankets. It’s time to get scared! Scary stories make you have chills and shivers. Monster ghosts, and ghouls all make you want to crawl under the covers at night and stay there, but there is nothing to be afraid of because it’s is just fiction. I like scary stories because it’s so much fun to get the spine tingling chills. These kind of stories are good for sitting around the campfire, or when you are at a sleepover. They will keep you up all night, because you will wonder if there really is a monster under your bed, or wonder if that rustling sound in the trees is Big Foot. You will have lots of fun scaring your friends. If you’re

I chose the story “Ghosts” by Edwidge Danticat because the title attracted me more than the other story and also, I was interested to read something that came from Haiti, of which culture I know nothing. The story is about a young man called Pascal, who lives in Bel Air, a poor neighbourhood run by gangs in Haiti. Pascal’s parents own a small restaurant whose main customers are local gang members and Pascal, who helps at the restaurant but also has a job in one of Haiti’s main radio stations. The leader of the gang commits a crime and claimed that Pascal is the mastermind of the operation.…

My Favorite Short Story So far the story I like the most is “Hostage” by Joyce Carol Oates. The reason this is my favorite story so far because it is suspenseful. A way it is suspenseful is when she got taken by the guy no one had a clue what was going to happen next. In the story it shows a suspense part it says “By now the librarian from the sound adult room had emerged, and another women was poking her head around the corner…”(Oates1207). That shows that the lady didn't know what was going to happen.…

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman easily fits into the category of ghost stories. It tells the story of a young boy whose mother, father, and sister were killed by a man named Jack when he was a baby. He managed to escape the house and make it to a graveyard not far from his home. There, he meets several ghosts, including Mr. and Mrs. Owens, who decide to take care of him. The baby is named Nobody, or Bod as a nickname.…

Why We Crave Horror Movies by Stephen King is a blunt explanation or theory put together by him on the subject of why we crave horror movies. In this excerpt, King explains what we do when we pay to see these films, as well as, why we do this. Horror movies are meant to take one on an emotional roller coaster and make them experience one, if not all, of their worst fears all in one setting.…

We had a school book fair, I started to notice all kinds of different books, there was a book called “La llorona” that caught my attention because we had an urban legend about a ghost lady that was called “La Llorona”. The urban legend was about a mom who lost her child and every night she would come out looking for her child. But while she is looking she would cry the whole time, but if she saw a child alone she would approach the child and end up taken the child forever. People say if you was taken by La Llorona then you would never see your family again. Weird urban legend, but it did put fear in children to make sure we weren’t outside alone at night.…

A Nightmare on Edgehill Road When I first selected The Nightmarys by Dan Poblocki from the horror section in the media center, my immediate reaction was, “Oh great, another tacky story about creepy girls that kill people while they sleep that will scare you even though it’s kind of stupid, have fun going to sleep tonight, Charlie!” I soon, however, realized that my first assumption was wrong; The Nightmarys, although being slightly difficult to follow, is actually a well-written, meaningful book. It is a little scary the first time you read it, who wouldn’t be scared by demon corpses, mysterious villains, and all the main character’s fears coming to life, but after you read the book a second time, you start to recognize the key elements all exceptional horror stories have. Dan Poblocki is an experienced horror story writer who has been freaking kids out…

Fitting Genre to Audience and Purpose (Rough Draft) When writing, it is important to know to whom you are talking to and what’s the purpose of your composition. Throughout this course, my classmates and I have worked on many assignments where the audience varied. Sometimes our assignments were for our professor and other times for the rest of the class. Ghost Hunters The classic ghost story is shared around a campfire with frightened children, stuffing s’mores in their mouths, or on a candlelight tour around an old city (usually for a fee). When we tell ghost stories, we enter deep time, a thing so infinitely interconnected and complex that it becomes difficult to separate fact from fiction and past from present. Ghost stories emerge out of ignorance, revolve around dramatic irony and distortion, and of course, linger somewhere in the haze between truth and tale. Using these same qualities, Holmes and Woolf dive into deep time with their EMF meters to write the ghost stories found in The Age of Wonder and To the Lighthouse.…

For many years, authors have been writing scary novels such as The Shining, It, and The Turn of the Screw. These novels all tell a bone-shuddering story and leave readers cautiously checking under their bed and sleeping with a few lights on. Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House does this as well as making readers question their own mental strength. A good expression for a variety of emotions and characters, this novel leaves the audience hanging onto every word. Jackson utilizes foreshadowing, symbolism, and irony in The Haunting of Hill House.…
