In the scientific community, collaboration with others is necessary, and often, they come from an alternate way of life. Working with someone who may be different in many ways has numerous benefits; they may be able to propose ideas that you had not previously considered, or they could inform you of something that has the potential to assist you later in life. While listening to each multicultural presentation, I was able to learn about many different things and concepts, which I had never heard about before. Each group did a different lesson and informed the class about different subjects. Each group also gave great examples of different lessons we can use one day in the classroom to incorporate multicultural education into each students daily lives. The first presentation I really enjoyed and learned from was Paige, Jenna, and Lexi’s presentation. They did a presentation targeted to a 5th grade class.…

The blog post “Defining Diversity and Inclusion” says that inclusion means to allow organizations to quiet cultural discord. I find it impossible to share common wisdom and goals if teachers or other employees keep themselves isolated from each other on the basis of gender, ability, culture, or language. Inclusive culture does not mean an individual has to be fond of every colleague they work with, but they should still value the views of their fellow peers (n.d). But, this is something that cannot be changed alone, development of inclusive culture in schools, where everyone comes from different cultures and backgrounds, necessitate efforts from every staff member within school. In my current school, teacher leaders organize seminars to develop…

Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines diversity as the condition of having or being composed of differing elements. By this definition, every human being is diverse because God created us as individuals with different beliefs, morals, attributes, and appearances. Sadly, our society has taken the word diversity and defined it only for appearances. Some might say that I am not diverse because I am a Caucasian girl from a small town in Ohio, but I am diverse because I am entirely different than the Caucasian girl from a small town in Pennsylvania. I am diverse because of the life my parents have provided me.…

All my life, I have lived in Fairview Park, Ohio. A middle class, inner-ring suburb of Cleveland, its racial/ethnic make-up is 94% white residents. This demographic is essentially repeated in my school, sports, and church. Yet this does not mean I lack an appreciation for diversity, equity or inclusion. I understand that there are people deprived of opportunities or treated unfairly just because of their skin color, or religion, or disability.…

To begin, I want to say I find this course insightful. Through the weeks, I have come to accept that everyone has unconscious bias, but also, that it is not something to be ashamed of, if anything, it is something to learn from. Before this class, I was not sure how to articulate my experiences on cultural differences. Also, I did not have a good grasp on culture and how it affects us all differently. I have learned to recognize that I have my own ethnocentrism, that it is okay to feel proud of my own culture in the sense that, maybe there are other ways to do things, but I like my way better because that is the way I am accustomed to.…
