The information they were learning did not specifically relate to their cultural backgrounds, but they read the story of the boy who cried wolf and the students related that to their selves and how if they too many times people will not believe them when they are telling the truth.

I was correct about the amount of materials, the students had few pencils and only a few crayons to use when doing work, they had a drawer tower by each table that held the students school materials and most of the drawers were empty. I was also correct about the different ethnicities than I am used to and there were students who all seemed to have different backgrounds, however I did not get to know much about them outside of the classroom.
13. Explain how this experience or other similar experiences can help you become more effective in terms of teaching students from diverse backgrounds.
This experience showed me the types of students that I may one day have in my classroom and I will have to know how to help them learn and how to meet their needs. As a child raised in a predominantly African-American neighborhood, my initial encounter with people from other backgrounds occurred when the school district started bussing kids across the city to largely populated white schools. While this experience took us out of our neighborhood schools, it provided an opportunity to meet students from other races, ethnicities, and religions which were different from me. Interacting with kids from various backgrounds helped me to be more open to different perspectives and not to prejudge. Additionally, the church I grew up in was very strict.…
