Personal Narration: A Short Story

On Friday, October 21st, 2016, at approximately 10 pm, I sat in my room, on my bed. Numb. Without feeling. Wondering what the absolute hell had just happened. Thoughts running through my mind without being processed. Phone blowing up from others asking, wondering, judging. I was annoyed, irritated, in shock, beyond mad, disappointed, and above all, very intoxicated. Feelings ran through my mind, and yet I simply sat and stared at the white ceiling of my room. Eventually, sleep overtook and what seemed like minutes later, my alarm blared through my groggy consciousness at 5 am. Time to go to work, hoping that the news of what had happened had not spread. Though of course, as with all my hopes, they were dashed when I was called to the office. …show more content…
Being told this, I panicked. I ran from Mr. Laube and hid under a bus while Mr. Laube looked for me. As soon as I saw my opportunity, I ran to my house. At this point, Mr. Laube told my father I would now have four days of out of school suspension. But my stupidity was far from over, little did I know. At my house I chugged a gallon of water, and assuming that as long as I did not appear intoxicated, despite running from Mr. Laube and trespassing at the game once already, I would be able to return to the game and have no further repercussions. And as such, I returned. Now, it is necessary to describe the bleachers at the football field. The student section is separated from the rest by a flight of stairs, and the lowest row is still roughly three feet above the ground, with a railing. I was standing in the front row, in the middle, roughly seven or eight feet from the stairs when I saw Mr. Laube once again coming for me. I panicked again, and slid over the rail and attempted to run from Mr. Laube. I turned the corner of the stands, thinking I could get away, and was met by a wall of two bodies. I fell down and was immediately tackled by the

Pacing back and forth, I pondered how our volleyball fundraiser was going to stay afloat. The council was distraught, unable to acquire more teams, with the tournament in two days. With our advisors and the vice principal leaning towards canceling the event, my council had two choices: get eight more teams to sign up or call off the event. I didn’t want to cancel because I knew that as Junior and Senior year approached, we needed more money to fund our proms and class trips.…

Wiping my tears from my face, I released how silent the house was, the bathroom illuminated with an eerie glow, a feeling of dread settled itself at the pit of my stomach, my self-loathing and rage replaced by fear. The reticence only served to accentuate my feeling of vulnerability. A wave of nausea hit me again, staggering to my feet, I hobbled to the phone. The police had to know about Ariels death before the killer struck again, I let out a weak laugh, trying to mask my growing trepidation, a tinge of desperation laced my voice as I narrated the situation, my vulnerability grew by the second. A second wave of nausea hit me, a deluge of blood and vomit disemboguing from my mouth, a sickly amalgam of blood and chunks of vomit caking my legs and the floor around me.…

At the age of twenty, what girl would even think about her boyfriend proposing? I know that every girl dreams of her wedding day, how it would look, and the way it would turn out. Planning a wedding is not an easy task like everyone thinks it is. Planning my wedding involved three main things; the date for the wedding, the type of dress that I would wear, last but not least, would be the type of venue I was going to have. Another main important thing is, where it would take place.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

“Congratulations!!” read one post on a friend’s Facebook wall, the day after she landed an office job in her field. “So amazing!” read another. “Are you ready for your big-girl job?” asked a third well-wisher, accompanied by a GIF of Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope. “I can’t believe I finally have a real job” was the text she sent me a few days later, from the comfort of her desk, where she had been hired to do operations work for an organization she had once, a few years prior, interned for.…

I think a writer's voice is their own style of writing, a perspective, and a tone. Our style is the mechanics of our storytelling. I think over time our natural style will develop and as we read various works, we begin to be influenced by the styles of those we choose to read. We begin to pick up bits and pieces along the way and eventually define our own unique style of writing. Experiences is what will shape our voice.…
