What Did Santiago Learn From The Alchemist

The king, the Alchemist and the sheep all taught santiago something threw out his journey. some more than the others. But still each taught him a something. Something that help him on his adventure.
The alchemist taught him many things. He taught Santiago about personal legend. that no matter what he does even if he stayed and married fatima the bad omens and luck would call him to fulfill the quest. he also teaches Santiago that the quest is more about the journey than the treasure.
The sheep although they cannot talk teach santiago some of his 1st lessons. He thinks of them as mindless animals searching for their next meal and water. the sheep teach him through this that that is how most people live their lives. that people have dreams and aspirations but never act to do them instead just follow the herd. Also they taught him a very important lesson. about searching for something, for having purpose in life. not just

He learns this when the King comes to him as a dirty homeless old man while he is reading. At first Santiago ignores him and doesn't want to talk. until finally he starts and conversation with him only to find out he is a King. The king also teaches him a very important lesson when he sends him to explore the castle with a spoonful of oil, instructing him not to spill any oil and to tell him everything he saw once he returns. once he returns to the King, Santiago could not recollect anything he saw because he was too focused on not spilling any oil. the King sends him out a second time and this time he returns and tell the king everything he saw but spilled all the oil. the oil and the sights are a metaphor for having a balance between seeing the sights and having fun and his responsibilities and tasks. Saying that you can't have so much fun and just forget about your tasks and duties, but you can't let the tasks and duties rule your life with no fun. You must have a
