Macbeth says to himself, “I have almost forgot the taste of fears… I have supped full with horrors. Direness, familiar to my slaughterous thoughts cannot once start me.” Regardless of what he says, I believe he was in denial because he still does know what fear is like. Everything started with the desire to become king and when he achieved it fear clouded his emotions. He feared of losing everything. Fear was what led him to kill because of his lust for power. He grew accustomed to the feelings that would usually reside in a person ended the lives of the innocent. In the beginning, the thought of murdering a king disturbed him, and putting his thoughts into actions caused guilt and fear to eat him. Unfortunately, his hunger for power was stronger – maybe even stronger than his love for Lady Macbeth. When Macbeth heard that Lady Macbeth is dead, he voices, “She should have died hereafter… Life’s but a walking shadow… It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” To me, it seemed as though he was hardly bothered that his wife was dead and I conclude that reasoning because when he was informed that Birnam Woods was marching up to the castle, he says that he is tired of living. However, once you have made a decision, you can’t undo it. It has already happened and you must face the consequences of your actions. No man is perfect and we all make mistakes, but with God by our side it is possible that we can be able to resist a lot of temptations thrown our way, thus decreasing the amount of mistakes we will make in our life. Macbeth was a great man, but power changed him. He became the opposite of what he was. He lost sight of what was good, he became a backstabber and he became lifeless. It only takes a single word or action for evil to spark in our hearts due to our sinful nature. Macbeth fell into the temptations he had to overcome.
