What Caused The Great War

The Great War Was Not a Great War! The Great War was not a time anyone wanted to face. During the 1914s to 1918s a bloody, brutal war was fought throughout most of Europe. Powers were being formed such as the Central Powers which contained Germany and Austria-Hungary. Many soldiers were in trenches waiting for the long days to go by. Soon countries all over the world were involved in the war one way or another. The Great War was caused by Militarism and Alliances that created many unnecessary problems in the world. Militarism is the glorification that a country should have a strong and prepared army. It was a great effect during World War I because many countries were willing to put an abundant amount of effort into building a strong and mobilized army. When the time came to fight they would be more than ready to do so. “Great Britain, France, and Germany were the top three countries that increased their amount of money spent on weapons. Germany spent $3.54 on weapons per person in 1870. By 1914 Germany was spending $8.23 on armaments per capita. This increased by $4.69, which is a great deal” (Chart on Increasing Amounts of Money). Militarism invented the idea of having an army ready for war, ready to fight, and ready to kill. Multiply countries were willing to put so much effort into buying and building weapons. This lead the increase spending of stockpiled arms. Along with Militarism being a problem, Alliances was also a problem. Alliances constructed countries to take sides and form enemies. Whenever there was a problem it wasn’t just one country, it was that country and their allies. Everyone thought this war was going to end all wars but instead it didn’t. It created tons of problems afterwards such as World War
