The Declaration of Independence, written primarily by Thomas Jefferson, separated the British Colonies from England and listed the reasons why the Colonies left. A main reason for the Declaration was that under the rule of the British Parliament and King George III, unjust judicial rulings and laws contradictory to the treaties and agreements between the two factions were implemented and enforced. As the actions of England become increasingly more intolerable and hostile, it became apparent to the leaders in the colonies that unless change was made, separation was the best course to take.
The results of Britain ignoring the colonies pleas was the Continental Congress’s decision to claim independence from England and form their own sovereign
