After World War Two the Cold War began in 1947 and lasted through 1991 until the Soviet Union broke up. During this time period, the president of the United States was Harry Truman. The Two superpowers in the Cold War were the United States and the Soviet Union in other words capitalism vs. communism. In previous years the Soviet Union's and the United States did not have the best relationship. During this time the leader of the Soviet Union was Joseph Stalin this made relations with the United States worst. The United States was trying to prevent the expansion of communism this is where the Truman Doctrine came in.
