Goal #3: Learn how to be more decisive in decision-making situations As a people pleaser, I have difficulty making decisions because I want to make sure everyone’s opinions and ideas are valued. However, this often leads to internal conflict because I take too long to make decisions, out of fear that I am making the wrong decision, hurting other peoples’ feelings or being overly assertive. I find that I seek approval from others in order to validate my opinions in decision-making situations. Being more decisive will help me become a more confident and purpose-driven leader, which will demonstrate to my team members that I can lead them and that they can trust the choices I make. I will know that I have achieved this goal when others recognize my promptness in making decisions.…

Achieving a bachelor’s degree from a four-year institution will help me to attain a career in a field I am passionate about. Many careers, especially those in metal working and engineering, require additional education and certification following graduation from high school. With the two years I have spent enrolled in the Machine Technologies program at the Butler Area Vocational-Technical School, I have had the opportunity to observe various local industries and engage with those who have attended trade schools and completed apprenticeship programs. After speaking with people from these various educational backgrounds, I have determined that pursuing a four-year education will better prepare me for the career I want. Moreover, throughout high school I chose to enroll in upper-level and honors…
As a nontraditional student or an adult learner, I am faced with the sobering statistic that only one third of adult students graduate from college after entering the program of their choosing (New, 2014, para. 1). Faced with this reality, it is crucial that the student set clear and attainable goals to support the end goal of acquiring a degree. To combat this staggering statistic and understand the risks and challenges ahead, I have identified three educational goals that I would like to achieve in my time at CCU. Firstly, to finish a bachelor’s degree in a timely manner, effectively managing the available resources.…
