Suffragettes during the modernisation period had one main expectation this was to obtain the right to vote. The suffragettes wanted this right to vote so they had the same power and rights that men did, they wanted this so that they could have a say in how they were governed and which laws would dictate their lives. An Image of Annie Kenney and Christabel Pankhurst from the time shows that these women wanted to vote, often holding protests and marching through streets with signs displaying their thoughts. The expectations of these women were partly meet, 1869 saw single women and widowed rate-payers were granted the right to vote. This only granted some women the expectations but they did achieve this in later years.

The suffragettes were the first step towards women being able to vote in the current world, Women during the French Revolution helped with the rights that are set currently and women workers aided to improve the working condition of women all over the world.
