This aggregate currently resides at Gilliam Psychiatric hospital, located within a prison setting. First, the weakness identified is mentally ill inmates are left in solitary confinement for almost twenty-two hours per day. The isolation and confinement resulted in decompensation of the inmate mental health condition. The inmate mental health state was worse off than their initial mental health screening. Second, some of the staff members did not attend a university or had initial training on being a mental health caseworker or counselor. The staff members were originally guards and they were forced to cross train over to being a mental health counselor. This was done because there was a great need to fill mental health counselor positions due to the recent lawsuit. Being a guard and cross training over to an officer without proper education and training of dealing with mentally ill patients can create a conflict of interest. According to Hartvig & Kjelsberg (2009), “by increasing the number of mental institution beds, a society could reduce serious crimes and imprisonment rates (pg. 51). The South Carolina State Hospital could not increase the number of mental institution due to the state budget system. This aggregate had some identifiable strength and weakness within the community setting. Through the dedication and help of each staff member, there can be an improvement with risk identifiable factors of the incarcerated mentally ill
