What Are The Strengths And Weaknesses In Communication

As a General Business major I was not planning on taking a communications and conflict course, and it actually turned out to be one of my favorite classes this semester. This was my first course where the students could express their opinions, and openly discuss the ways of communication, and its important role in conflicts.Conflict occurs whenever people disagree over their values, motivations, perceptions, ideas, or desires. I now have come to the realization of my strengths and weaknesses on my communication skills, and methods of handling conflicts. Growing up I seen many conflicts go left and get violent very quickly and I always believed that there couldn 't be smart and healthy resolutions. When in grasping unhealthy …show more content…
I learned to have the courage to tackle conflicts head on while having empathy for the other person’s feelings, sometimes body language signals can be different than the person’s true emotions, also learning to control my emotions and take constructive criticism without shutting down. I 'm very thankful for learning such useful skills because I 'm heading into the demanding world of business. I didn’t notice how much I avoided conflicts, and my inability to communicate fully until the day we constructed the conflict philosophy workshop. The workshop determined that I was a little bit of everything but mostly a compromiser and avoider. While in class I even got to the root of where my weaknesses began to form, and began to search for strength in those areas. I have never been the type of person to jump up and involve myself in a conflict because I always felt that conflicts weaken people, and I didn’t want to be under the lens of someone else. My weaknesses were when handling conflicts I really didn’t listen actively, I definitely would shut down emotionally especially in heated arguments, and I hold back speaking my mind. All of these weaknesses rooted from when I was younger in my own home I felt like I never had a voice, and no one care to hear me out when I did speak so I started avoided confrontations everywhere no matter how big or …show more content…
One situation that tested my abilities recently was when my boyfriend and I decided to call it quits. I started opening up my mind and coming to the conclusion that this relationship was not healthy for me to try to hold on to. He began to say very mean and hurtful things to me and surprisingly I was calm, listening, I spoke my mind with clarity and was able to successfully resolve this conflict. I learned that every situation does not deserve your energy and attention especially dealing with a person of severe stubbornness that refuses to hear you out, and shows no interest in your wants. Studying body language gestures was a good knowledgeable experience for me because at times I tend to misinterpret other peoples body language because I only knew what my own body language. By becoming more aware of body language and understanding what it might mean, I learned to read people more easily. I 'm now in a better position to communicate effectively with more people. What 's even greater is increasing my understanding of others so that I can also become more aware of the messages that I convey to them. Conflict triggers strong emotions and can lead to hurt feelings, disappointment, and

Over time I decided to give it a try, but he was no longer the same person. Due to his past relationships his outlook on everyone was completely different. He was no longer into the affection, he expected me to hurt him like everyone else, and the biggest problems of all, he wouldn’t commit. I didn’t really think too much of it because he always told me that it was nothing serious. I just strongly disliked that he felt the need to lie about any and…

I become very introvert as within personality, because my peers were not accept me as who I am and they did not play any online games with me too. I thought that nobody would understand my feelings because they did not want to have any conversations with me nor not letting me join in any groups so I become more interverted and hide my emotions from other people including the family members. I was also stuck in fixed mindset that I could not get along with other people because they were always judging me within my disability so that I could not get out of this infinite loop that set it my mind long time…

One of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is safety, which was not being met by my boss nor my company, instead it was being threatened during the workplace bullying. (Marques, 2011). In Herzberg theory on motivation, he speculated that a relationship with a boss plays a part in dissatisfaction, which in turn should not have played such a key role in the decline of the satisfaction (2010). Given that the relationship had such a negative impact, it instead should be attributed to the resignation. High neuroticism by the director caused all the characteristics of values/culture, agreeableness, tolerance, and self-esteem to be negatively impacted by the bullying situation (Carpenter, Bauer, & Erdogan, 2012).…
