Antonio was not thinking about himself at this moment. He was about to die and all he wanted to do was tell Bassanio to send his best wishes to his wife, to speak well of him after his death and only to be sad because he is going to lose a friend who loves him dearly. Antonio wanted Bassanio to live a happy life with his wife but more importantly, carry on. Antonio cared so much for Bassanio that he was going to pay Bassanio's debt and die so that Bassanio could live. Antonio takes his generosity and friendship with Bassanio to extraordinary and even ridiculous levels.
