Between the both sides Merlin was the one who adheres to Campbells vision of the magical guide to in the heroic journey. Merlin sent the King Arthur on heroic journeys throughout the story. Merlin did things for the king so it can teach him life lessons and become a better person. In the story Morte d’ Arthur, Merlin also makes the king the chosen one by giving him the strength and the only one with the strength to pull the sword out.

Merlin is the wizard that makes stuff happen for much of the first part. Merlin sent the king to the duke wife because the king really had an big crush on her. So, Merlin disguises the king as duke. However,the mission was an success. The king was able to have a baby with the wife.
