The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby is a story told by Nick Carraway, who was Gatsby’s neighbor, this essay will talk about the incidents that happen throughout the book and movie. Following the description of this incident, Nick catches his mysterious neighbor, who hosts weekly parties for the rich and fashionable. I will explain the differences and similarities to the book and movie. There was many similarities between the book and movie. One of the main similarities is when Gatsby finally shows Daisy his house. ” I want you and Daisy to come over to my house.” (Fitzgerald 89) I had been waiting for this moment to happen in the book and when I saw Gatsby’s reaction in the

I saw that immediately when Nick and Jordan were discussing the problems between Daisy and Tom. By just listening for awhile Jordan opens up to Nick with all the problems that Daisy has been having with Tom. (Fitzgerald 14-15) Nick was very attentive and supportive just like I pictured in my mind.

A third similarity, is when in the book Daisy walks into Gatsby’s bedroom and Gatsby’s starts throwing to her all his beautiful clothes. “It makes me sad, because I’ve never seen such beautiful shirts before.” (Fitzgerald 92) Her amazement to his riches made her realize what she was missing out on. In the movie during this scene Daisy’s expression to what was going on really followed her feelings in the book. (The Great Gatsby)

These similarities were a few of many throughout the book and movie. However, the differences really stood out. As an example, my first noticeable difference is when Gatsby in the book is described as being a bootlegger associating with gangsters and getting all his fortune from illegal activities. “I’ll tell you God’s truth.” (Fitzgerald 65) In the movie he is just portrayed as some mysterious very rich handsome person. (The Great Gatsby) You never really see or hear where he got his money or has continued to make his fortune from. Only that he can spend and party and amaze all his neighbors

It was a very sad moment. The movie, because I knew the story, had me on edge as I watched Gatsby come out of the swimming pool hearing the phone ring, I thought “ Is Daisy calling? Who is calling?” Then he is shot and I was shocked! (The Great Gatsby) It left me with the impression that Gatsby knew it was Daisy calling. Unlike the book the movie seems to say that Gatsby was going to get with Daisy. Of course it was only Nick calling. I wonder while Gatsby was dying and he was hearing his butler on the phone if he also thought he would be getting together with

The Great Gatsby is a novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald about a mysterious character named Gatsby that the protagonist, Nick Carraway, slowly gets to know and befriend. The characters in the book are all very odd and interesting with their own personal backgrounds that make them very relatable in their own respective ways. I believe that out of all the unique personalities, I can relate the most with Nick’s because of his many facets such as his openness and honesty towards others, while also being humble, accepting and tolerant. I think that one of Nick's conflicts is that he tries to please everyone at the same time. Originally, Nick went to Tom Buchanan’s house to see his cousin Daisy after being separated for so long.…

Just like all of the people in the novel who are fixated on fame, Nick takes pleasure in noting that he has “a partial view of [his] lawn, and [a] consoling proximity [to a] millionaire”(5). Not long after, Nick sees Gatsby for the first time. Gatsby is alone in the dark trembling, yearning for something with outstretched arms, which is later discovered to be the companionship of Daisy. This shows a great contrast between Gatsby’s legacy and life, the first being rich and full and the latter being deficient and lonely. This idea is reinforced when nick meets Gatsby’s father ,“who’s pride in… his’s possessions was continually increasing”(173) and seemed to make a greater impact on him than the death of his son.…

The Great Gatsby, a novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, writes about Nick Carraway, a young aspiring writer, and his dramatic experiences with his neighbor Jay Gatsby, his cousin Daisy Buchanan, her husband Tom Buchanan, and his ex-lover Jordan Baker. Throughout the book, Nick sees a contrast between the way he perceives life. Gatsby’s views are more hopeful whereas Tom, Daisy, and Jordan views are harsh and realistic. Due to their judgment and actions, these characters are viewed as selfish and uncaring, especially towards the end following Gatsby’s fall. Like many other movies derived from books, there are numerous differences. The book has many people who aren't named in the movie, and the movie shows scenes that the book does not. The book described the Abramowiczs as a fairly poor family in a small shtetl, but in the movie it shows a wealthy family in a big village. There are also many similarities between the book and the movie. Both the book and movie contain the same main ideas in the plot, and have more or less the same storyline.…

The novel is a better and detailed version of a story about a man who is fighting for the love of his life, but she is already a wife and mother. The Greater Great Gatsby The book the Great Gatsby has been depicted by lots of films, but the two that stand out the most are the 1974 and the 2013 versions. The1974 movie has strengths and weaknesses when comparing it to the book as does the 2013 version. Analyzing each movie and closely examining its connection to the book took some time. Finally the 1974 movie is a more noteworthy adaptation of the book then the 2013, in that this version was better at keeping the essence of the characters and conveying F. Scott Fitzgerald 's purpose in the writing the novel.…

While The Great Gatsby is represented during the 1920’s, its story has been told thousands of times, in many different forms, and may possibly be as old as America itself. The main character is Jay Gatsby, a wealthy man in New York with an unknown profession. Gatsby is well known for the lavish parties he throws each weekend at his mansion in the West Egg. The narrator of the story, Nick Carraway, moves into a small house next to Gatsby’s mansion in an attempt of entering the bond business.…

While Gatsby and Daisy’s love ends in great sadness, the affection that Gatsby has for Daisy creates the mood of loving happiness, “He hadn’t once ceased looking at Daisy, and I think he revalued everything in his house according to the measure of response it drew from her well-loved eyes”(Fitzgerald 91). This satisfaction created by the author truly showcases Gatsby’s emotions and the author’s ability to breathe life and reality into the characters through the tone he creates. Another example of this is through Gatsby and Daisy again since it seems that the only true lovely happiness comes through them even though they are the fantasy that reality cannot truly comprehend, “Their eyes met, and they stared together at each other, alone in space. With an effort she glanced down at the table”(Fitzgerald…

Another parallel between these two would be their involvement in the military. Both Fitzgerald and Gatsby fought in World War I, and both became relatively wealthy after the war. They were also both poor boys who fell in love with women who, because of their social status, would never marry either Gatsby or Fitzgerald. For Jay Gatsby, Daisy Buchanan was the unattainable woman with whom he fell in love with. Even after he had attained immense wealth, and even had an affair with Mrs. Daisy Buchanan, he was never able to live the life with her that he had envisioned from the moment he met her.…

Since based off the same book both are remotely the same there some major differences though. The actors are different so therefore they each played the part differently. I think that Leonardo played a better Gatsby his presentation of him was far better than Redford’s. He became the part, to me Redford had no emotion whatsoever. I think the love was better shown in the 2013 version rather than the 1974 version.…

Another similarity between Tom and Gatsby is that both men seem to be playing a role when every they’re in public, by putting on a facade for others to see. With his good looks, education, horses, polo shirts, riding pants, and boots, Tom tries to impress and dissemble others, while hiding the monster he really is. On the same token, the ostentatious parties, mysterious past, and made up stories are all used by Gatsby to hide his humble beginnings, and corrupt ways of attaining his wealth. Without a doubt, Gatsby and Tom’s most obvious connection is their link to Daisy. Beautiful, educated, and well groomed, Daisy is the personification of feminism in the 1920’s, and women of an elite social class.…
