Adolf was born in 1913 in the family's circus wagon, while the circus performance was going on. Where he was when he was born is not known. Maria was also from a circus family. Her date of birth is unknown. Adolf’s family owned a circus since the 17th century. Adolf’s brother and sister inherited the circus so he established his own. Shortly after he married Maria. Their circus toured all over Europe before and during the war. In the summer of 1941, the circus stopped for a round of performances near Darmstadt in Hesse. One of the visitors one a girl named Irene Danner. She was half Jewish. She was still discriminated even though she was only half Jewish. She hoped to join Adolf’s circus.
