The film puts a lot of questions in my mind when it comes to my own life and what I should do from now and onward. It also makes me slightly more indecisive when making big decisions since any decision can make big changes to my destiny like with Edward and

While reading both, “Into the Wild”, and “Tuesdays with Morrie”, I have realized that both have shared a theme of personal fulfillment shown through the characters. Chris McCandless and Morrie Schwartz show personal fulfillment in unique ways. Personal fulfillment is when you feel like you achieved something great in your life. You can also feel satisfied with yourself or your life and feel happiness. Chris wasn’t very happy growing up because of the way his lifestyle was with his parents.…

While William enjoys many of the various stories his father tells him as a young child, William’s enjoyment of them as an adult gradually morphs into intense embarrassment and annoyance to eventually resentment. This is evident from William’s reaction in the very beginning of Burton’s film to hearing his father utilize his stories in public speaking (Burton 0:5:35). It is only with the inevitable death of his father that finally forces William to make some effort to repair the damage his relationship with his father has suffered with throughout the three years that they have gone not speaking to one another. While both Burton and Wallace’s William attempt to reconcile with his dying father, the motives to achieve this is different from Daniel Wallace to Tim Burton. In the novel, Wallace uses William’s attempt to reconcile and understand his father’s motives for story-telling is what brings the two men to reestablish the desired relationship that they both wish to have with each other.…

Strangelove also uses props, but much more subtly in order to reflect the dangers in preventing a nuclear war. The props are not used for pure comedic effect, they are simply used to highlight absurdities. In the first scene on the B-52 jet carrying the nuclear bombs, the military personnel are reading Playboy and playing cards. These are not necessarily the actions that should be occurring on a plane carrying nuclear, humanity-destroying bombs. Therefore, the props in the slapstick comedies were simply used for comedic effect while the props in dark comedies started to have more meaning and significance regarding the theme in their uses.…

Because of this, Edward is left alone to live a life of isolation in his gloomy castle, stuck with scissors for hands. Ironically, this castle is found at the end of a purposely unremarkable, normal neighborhood. The juxtaposition created is almost comical. Suspension of disbelief must be applied, because not only do any of the characters not question why there is a castle in their neighborhood, they also do not show any real concern for the medical implications of Edward’s condition. Additionally, the events of the film are told by an older version of Kim, presumably to her own granddaughter, in a sort of fairy tale-esque bedtime story.…

Little is expected of Ed when he is introduced in this way. Overall, he appears to be disinteresting as a character and not captivating for a reader. Zusak has actually done something clever here, by portraying the pivotal character as so deceptively unexciting, he invites the reader to be drawn in - questioning why Ed is worthy of his protagonistic role. Mystery and intrigue into the true character traits of a seemingly- average Ed, entices the reader to engage with the novel. From the first pages, the reader wishes to explore Ed, and a meaningful change in him is necessary in order to satisfy the reader and their desire to see…
