Macbeth’s downfall was caused by free choice for many reasons. The first reason is because he does not want what the apparitions tell him to be true. Because of that, Macbeth takes many measures to make sure that nothing defeats him. The second apparition caused Macbeth to go down that route by telling him that no man born of a woman will kill him: “The power of man, for none of woman born shall harm Macbeth Act 4 Sc 1 li. 81-83). Macbeth knows that he has to do something about that message, so he decides he has to kill all of Macduff’s family and Young Siward to prevent the message from coming true.
