The pros of this would be all of the medical benefits like finding treatments and cures for many diseases such as cancer, diabetes, nerve injuries, spinal cord injuries, Alzheimer’s,
Parkinson’s and much more. There’s still more being learned about human growth and cell development from everything that is being studied now. A lot of the pros are experimental and contain only …show more content…
There are also many cons to stem cells and they do bring up a controversy.
They’re first of all extremely costly to use in treatment, and although not as expensive, are also expensive to harvest for use. They are also extremely difficult to harvest and also take months to grow large enough to be useable. Another con is that there's a possibility that if extracting bone marrow stem cells from adults that it could be extremely painful. The side effects of stem cells are still unknown.Adult stem cells also cannot be changed into different cell tissues unless they are reprogrammed. Also because ethics are involved so it’s hard to continue researching the subject. Adults don’t have a lot of stem cells, which is a problem because it means more embryonic stem cells are harvested and used which just causes more issues with research and ethics.
In conclusion, I think that until there’s more research done it’s hard to say what is “right”. I think scientists should look into it and see what they can figure out.
It’s a very interesting subject that was hard for me to sort
