According to the Census Bureau, more people in America today are on welfare than have full time jobs (BillOReilly.com Staff). The United States’ government has historically made attempts to assist its citizens, especially those who are struggling. Although the government preaches support and monetary assistance to its welfare recipients it should be stricter with the quantity and quality of recipients. Welfare recipients are misusing the money for irrelevant things, like drugs, that is why there should be required drug tests implemented for recipients to continue to receive these benefits. The majority of welfare recipients are not motivated. It’s not necessary to reward unambitious people. If a citizen is receiving welfare assistance and not searching for a job, they shouldn’t continue receiving the help from the federal government. The government continues to try and make the welfare system better but they’re essentially just spending more money on a broke system. Taxpayers are being taking advantage of and being robbed of their hard work and income so that unambitious people can feed their addictions. Between May and November of 2014, 5,000 welfare recipients withdrew taxpayer money more than 10,000 times at casinos, liquor stores and pot shops (Kane).
