He campaigned for a reform and brought up the issue that health care in the U.S. is so costly it is a “threat to our economy” (ProCon.org). He also believed healthcare needs to be a “right for every American” (ProCon.org). Barack Obama eventually became president in November of 2008. After doing this, he encouraged members of Congress to pass the health care reform he was proposing. He encouraged them through addresses, many speeches, and his State of the Union addresses in the years 2009 and 2010 (ProCon.org). During the 111th Congress session, both parties put forth over one hundred health care bills. Republicans voted against increasing the amount of money spent on health care. And Democrats voted for public option. There was a health care act passed by the House Democrats in November 2009 that was supposed to supply healthcare for millions of Americans and also decrease the national debt in millions by the year 2019. A positive is that Obamacare is going provide health insurance for millions of Americans. The negative to that is for that to happen, rich people in America must have new taxes to pay. A positive is that Obamacare makes it to where you cannot be denied if you are sick or need help. A negative to that is since all insurance companies have to insure sick people; it will make the cost of everyone’s insurance increase.
