What Are The Pros And Cons Of Being Disruptive

Mrs. Andrea and I teach a male student who is very disruptive and disrespectful. Teachers had several meetings with his mother who expresses her concern, but explained she is at her widths end. The mother mentioned that the child does have ADHD, but is not currently taking medication. The mother stated that her son also sees a counselor, but the sessions are not helpful because the counselor has given up on him. Due to his disruptive behavior, teachers give him recess detention and conduct clips, so the student misses class regularly for in school suspensions, thus causing him to miss important assignments being taught. Another pro for expelling the student is he would no longer be disruptive to his other classmates, thus allowing the other students the opportunity to learn without classroom disruptions. On the other hand, one con for expelling the student is that it will do nothing to correct the student’s behavior problem. Another con for expelling the student is that he won’t be expelled forever. Therefore, the student could potentially return to school with the same negative and disruptive attitude as before. Moreover, one pro for the student meeting with the guidance counselor to work on his behavior problems is the guidance counselor is familiar with the student and his peers, therefore she knows his problems at school. This also allows her to have a better understanding of the student by watching him interact with his peers. Another pro for meeting with the guidance counselor is the student now has someone to rely on since his outside counselor has given up on him and she has the skills to help him utilize tools to adjust his behavior. One con for having the student meet with the guidance counselor is time is limited and is focused more on academics. Another con for meeting with the guidance counselor is the student now has to get comfortable and trust another counselor again. The student may have a negative
