First lets view Jakes anxiety through the first behavioral perspective. College might be new to him and he hasn’t had to take as hard of classes and it is causing Jake to stress. Also, the environment that surrounds him at school might be overwhelming and isn’t used to the overload of homework for each class. Especially when he is learning new material he hasn’t been taught before. That can be frightening. Because the classes overwhelm him, now Jake probably thinks he can’t do the work. By thinking this way it won’t let him reach his full potential in school or in life. By building Jake’s self-esteem and self-concept of how he views himself could treat his anxiety and help him succeed in his classes. Also his psychologist or therapist could encourage him to take easier classes and a smaller class load so he can ease his way into harder classes.
