As the study showed, addiction to computer games may affect the quality and quantity of social skills. When spending long hours of playing on the computer, there is no time to go out to meet old friends, new friends and form friendships. Players begin to think that nobody understands their passion for video games and feel only their fantasy world is where they feel good and sound. This will continue to be a problem when one gets older and won’t be able to establish meaningful relationships in the future. He and his brother were raised by a single mother. His mother had to work extra shifts to pay for bills and support two of her teenage sons. So after school these boys had no supervision and they would go play until they get tired and go to bed. The boys got addicted to playing Word of Warcraft game, where the point of the game was to completing monotonous quest after quest to level up and get a better looking armor. They became lazy to help out in the house and in the yard. He said “When my mother asked me to do something, I was aggravated and would talk back to her because I did not want to do chores”. Moreover, they did not care about going to friend’s house or socializing with relatives. In school, teachers noticed how isolated the boy became. He had no interest of anything other than going home. Their attitudes changed and all they loved to do is sitting in the room playing for days. After years went by, one of the boys was diagnosed with cancer. Looking back at his life, he could not believe how occupied he was with video games and how his life just passed by. That day he made a promise to live life that will be meaningful and that didn’t involve computer time. He became a volunteer in his community and had so much joy being a part of a team that makes a difference. He understood how amazing it was to be surrounded by people and
