In today 's society, social networking has had a very negative effect on the lives of people everywhere. According to Marilyn Price-Mitchell, "Now, there is a dramatic decrease in face-to-face communication, which reduces our generation’s ability to interact with others on a speaking level"(Price-Mitchell 1). This refers to the diminishing amount of social interaction due to social media impairing their ability to make real world conversation. Not only that, another way social networking can affect the youth is cyber bullying. "49.5% of students reported being the victims of bullying online..." (Procon.org 1). People all over are signed up on sites like facebook, instagram, twitter, etc. Although these sites are cool at first, they can lead to an addiction to social media. Being addicted to social media can bring on many downsides to a person 's life. For instance, it can be very hurtful to the grades of young kids. Instead of studying and figuring out their school assignments, young people will be spending a majority of their time on social media. This can really cause their grades to plummet. Social media even affects older people in the way that it hurts their ability to function properly at their jobs. Too much time spent on social networking sites can lead to an extreme lack of productivity in the workplace. According to Procon.org, "51% of people aged 25-34 accessed social media while at work"(Procon.org). Being addicted to social networking can also promote ignorance. When a person devotes a significant amount of time to social media, they can be exposed to multiple pieces of incorrect information. It has caused kids to create a dilemma in which their social skills have plummeted due to their dependence on their computers.
