Nowadays driving up with a new car will not make individual look rich or famous, it will not be even noticeable unless it is the high priced vehicle. Almost every family in modern and even in developing countries owns single or multiple vehicles. This might be a good thing, but driving a car is not always safe. Road accident is one of the essential problems in today’s world. According to the World Health Organization, more than 1.24 million individuals die in road accidents in the world each year, while more than 30 million people suffer from serious injuries (World Health Organization, 2013). Additionally, road accidents are in the top five causes of death all around the world, which implies the seriousness of the matter (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2013). There are several reasons explaining the cause of accidents, but the major one is lack of …show more content…
There are different laws in different countries to the wearing of seatbelts. In developed countries such as United Kingdom, United States and Canada, wearing seat belts are legalized. Although in developing countries such as India, all cars since 1994 are equipped with front seat belts. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that death risks for a driver wearing a lap shoulder seat belt are reduced by 48 percent. By the same study it is indicated that in 2007 more than 15,147 lives were saved by seat belts. According to the Centers for disease control (CDC) in more than one-half of the fatalities in the car crashes in 2009, seat belts were not worn.
