The mind is an immensely powerful tool, but with the constant development of mobile devices in today’s society, people are starting to lean more on instant guidance they can reach on the Internet rather than learning from trial and error and using intuition. Although phones and tablets can be extremely helpful in emergencies and for researching bits of information, many have become attached to their devices and do not realize the importance and value in using past experiences to reason through unexpected situations, as well as engaging in face-to-face interaction for deeper connections. Despite the fact that keeping in touch with people is the easiest it has ever been, people fail to use their devices solely for that purpose. Instead, they use them as the only medium of connection with certain people, eliminating the deep understanding that was there, or preventing it from beginning. The accessibility of connection only hurts relationships because many people do not realize how many of their interactions are limited to online platforms, discouraging them from furthering those connections on a much more profound level that can only be reached through consistent face-to-face …show more content…
This is an important obstacle to overcome and that is clearly evident through an experiment conducted to test the impact of a device being present, wherein “People who had conversations in the absence of mobile devices reported higher levels of empathetic concern, while those conversing in the presence of a mobile device reported lower levels of empathy” (Drago 14). This clearly shows that mobile devices break down the personal connection that allows people to learn about each other’s true identity. People feel as if they need their device as a mediator and an emergency escape if they do not know what to say or if the conversation dulls. However, the thoughts that populate peoples’ minds and the actions that follow are completely under their control. In turn, when people decide to support each other through patches of complete uncertainty, it creates an emotional bond that could never occur on the Internet, let alone with people providing advice to complete strangers. Successful people and those that are in a position to give advice continue to use their life experiences instead of relying on people that may just be looking for attention and viewership online, an environment in which the heart of a person is much more difficult to measure. These successful people are motivated and are not satisfied with the attitude
