Tissues are a group of cells with a common structure and function. There are four main tissues in the body. Epithelial, connective, muscular, and nervous tissue are the four main types that make up the human body. Epithelial tissue lines body cavities, hollow organs, and ducts. It covers the body surfaces and forms glands. Connective tissue binds organs together, stores energy reserves as fat, and provides immunity. It protects and supports the body and its organs. Muscular tissue generates the physical force needed to make body structure move. Lastly, nervous tissue detects changes inside and outside of the body and initiates and transmits nerve impulses that coordinate body activities to help maintain homeostasis. Epithelial tissue characteristics and traits are the following: It has many nerves in it. Closely attached to each other forming a protective barrier. Always has one fixed basal section attached to underlying connective tissue. Always has one free apical surface open to outside the body or inside an internal organ. Epithelial tissue can be squamous, flat and scale-like, cuboidal, as tall as they are wide, or columnar, tall, column-shaped. Cell arrangement is either simple, single layer of cells or stratified, stacked up layer of cells. Connective tissue traits are storing nutrients, wrapping around …show more content…
The three types of muscle tissue are smooth, skeletal, and cardiac muscles. Smooth muscle tissue is a tissue in organ and blood vessel walls. It is involuntary and has spindle-shaped cells for pushing things through organs. The skeletal muscle is found in large body muscles. It is voluntary and is packed in bundles and attached to bones for movement. The cardiac muscle is involuntary and is found in the heart wall.
