Top Five Items for Wilderness Survival I have made a research using online sources, and listed five most essential items for wilderness survival. The items are; knife, source of heat (matches or lighter), compass, first-aid, and water bottle (water filtering). In the most of the sources, the knife is the most important item for survival. Knives can be useful in many ways, and it can increase the chance of survival in wilderness. Especially blade knives are even more useful. It can be used for the following situations; using as a weapon, creating fire starters, building shelter, cutting something (rope, cloth for bandage etc.), preparing food and finding food, finding water source and for many other uses. Anyone who went for camping even once in his lifetime should know the importance of knife, not only in wilderness also for everyday use. …show more content…
Some sources prefer matches over lighter, some prefer lighter. I personally prefer lighter, because the matches can be finished easily, can easily get wet and might not work, some people can’t use matches and just break it in half. Also, some lighters have a light in the back, which is also essential for survival. The source of heat (fire) can be used; making a light in darkness, cooking food, keeping warm, making emergency signal through smoke, keeping animals away, etc. Some sources have mentioned that, if you don’t have a source find something (sticks, rocks etc.) to make a fire. But, it is extremely hard for people who have never done it before, especially in emergency
