Rome, the world’s strongest ancient empire, known for its great architectural beauty its strong leaders,and its military tactics and secrets that we still use today in our military. but the problem was behind the scenes of what we know, Rome has been internally weak and after all the great leaders it fell into the hands of the weak who could not control the city and this was the start of the great city’s downfall. One of the Roman’s greatest achievements was the great Roman aqueducts that transported thousands of gallons of water throughout the huge empire, but what they did not know is that sheets of lead they were using as concrete is very dangerous to the human body. They also took this water and boiled in it large oiled lead pots that increased the already acidic rain water that ran through the leaded aqueduct pipes. They believed lead was a better alternative to sugar and thought it contained large amounts of healthy benefits, this lead them to put lead in their wines and they also used lead as a cream to “protect”against evil spirits.. A recent study by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, “there is brain and kidney damage in adults with blood lead levels of 100 µg/dL(deciliter)”. Some believe that they took in more than they should’ve, some ate lead with every meal as an alternative to sugar and salt.
