A New York Times article from a couple years ago does a fantastic job at pointing out why the costs outweigh the benefits. To begin, it explains that drones create a “siege mentality” for the citizens. While the United States used drones in Pakistan to take out militants, it angered the Pakistani citizens which strengthened the power of the extremists in the area by creating a common enemy (Kilcullen and Exum). It really demolishes the public image of America. They do not like the violent extremists in the area, but they are more popular than the face enemy, the United States which destroys from afar and often killing more civilians than militants. There is nothing that the Pakistani citizens can do about the drones which are sent from people across the Atlantic Ocean. Also, besides drones devastating to the image of the United States, drones actually make problems worse. The government believes they are eliminating radical, violent leaders, but an article reports that “others feel that the drones exacerbate fighting against the U.S.” (Pepper). That article later expounds that federal laws for tribes actually require that family members of drone attack
