What Are The Effects Of Racism On Black Lives Matter

I notice when I post pieces regarding racism and piece related to "#Black Lives Matter" even my Google "Circle" folks do not click and read the pieces. While I am not surprised at the obvious indifference to matters of strife and factual oppression from US authorities in some communities, I will admit to a bit of disenfranchisement from so-called" progressives who predominantly comprise my Google "Circle."

Nonetheless, and typical America passes on, the recent example of an innocent and creative mind treated as a bombing suspect in an Irving Texas school should bother some of you. If you are one who hates people of Arabic or Persian decent, even you should see the shame and ridiculousness of the handcuffing and effectual arrest of Ahmed

Homes, businesses, mosques and Muslim schools have been vandalized, children tormented, and students harassed on college campuses. Outside of the regular hate crimes perpetrated by the people of the American public, the US government started racially profiling potential terrorists based on “Arab” features. (Hunt, 2014) This not only was a direct violation of the civil rights of the American people, but useless in identifying potential terrorists. (Hunt, 2014; Williams,…

Since January 1st of last year, 1,502 people were shot and killed by a police officer on duty in America. Of those deaths, 381 were African American. Although that number doesn’t seem very large at first glance, the African American population only makes up 13% of the overall U.S population, making this statistic quite alarming (Lowery, 2016). Police brutality towards African American’s has been a prevalent issue in recent years, which in-turn has created a movement referred to as Black Lives Matter. The message behind Black Lives Matter is that every person deserves equal rights and treatment, no matter their skin color or race.…

In the Summer of 2013, the Black Lives Matter movement came to fruition in the wake of George Zimmerman’s acquittal in the shooting of Trayvon Martin, a young and unarmed black male. Since then, the movement has demonstrated against other deaths of many black men believed to have been victims of police brutality. Despite the scrutiny behind police practices such as the chokehold and racial profiling, which are both deemed illegal, the police have not changed these practices and instead made them legal under different names such as the “headlock” and the “drug courier profile”. In response to the Black Lives Matter movement and the 2014 killings of NYPD officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, the Blue Lives Matter movement was created. Instead…

A recently published opinionated editorial discussed some of the problems with the Black Lives Matter Movement (BLM). Brendan O’neill wrote this op-ed and he also holds the position of editor at spiked, “the magazine that wants to make history as well as report it.” As a white man, his role in talking about the Black experience and in the manner in which he does it exposes his sense of entitlement by how much significance he believes his opinion has. With that said, many of his claims completely missed the point of this movement due to his lack of understanding. O’neill’s credibility becomes terribly questionable time and time again throughout his editorial because it doesn’t seem like he took the time to actually research what BLM stands for to begin with.…

Many Americans let their fear of terrorism blind them, resulting in accusations against innocent Muslims who actually have no part in terrorist activities. “The Imam’s Curse” tells the story of a Muslim family in Miami who were arrested for allegedly sending money to the Taliban. The author, Evan Osnos, writing for the New Yorker magazine, maintains that this was a great miscarriage of justice, where the F.B.I. fabricated evidence and did not possess a strong case against the family. I agree that the imprisonment of Hafiz Khan and multiple family members was not just, and there was a lack of sufficient evidence to convict Mr. Khan. American fear of terrorism victimizes Muslims who migrate to the United states for a better life and end up being…

The Black Lives Matter movement has swept the nation ever since the unjustified murdering of Trayvon Martin in 2012. During this time African Americans and other minorities were vulnerable and frightened yet came together across the world to make a drastic difference for the justice of these innocent young and old lives. This harmless phenomenon has been recently targeted as being “racist” and a “hate group” yet the whole meaning of the name and purpose is to remind everyone that black lives matter too. For example, the Baltimore riots that occurred in the spring of 2015, were only trying to push the importance of Black lives not completely destroy their city and rebel. The significance of this is crucial in this day and age due to the injustices of the court and police system, we’re only trying to reiterate something that should be given to all people at birth.…

While Black Lives Matter—from the beginning—was practically a movement in order to bring discussion on police brutality was a good thing, the problem is due to lack of unify leadership and unable to condemn those who used the movement for their own intentions. This is a common problem for social movements in this day and age-thanks to the advancement of technology and social media. People who have no idea about the movement jumped in and spread false information in order to further divide the nation—and with the lack of condemning those who spread it—they remained quiet for the most part in order to use the attention to further spread their awareness. This is not the bad thing, but bad awareness would dilute the point of the movement when mass…

Watching the news is often a painful experience. All we see is death and bloodshed- the suffering of humanity, and eventually we disassociate pain from what we see, making it into nothing more than a sad story. By watching constant suffering we strip away our own humanity. We have come to use tragedies as a way to make our point, as a form of persuasion, which is a dark twist to humanity 's former purity. However, this is a problem that reaches much further back than news broadcasts do.…

The black lives matter movement is trying to change the way black people are being discriminated against, and to bring awareness about how society has made black people look inferior compared to white people. To improve civil rights, the black lives matter movement has brought to attention the oppression, and discrimination against Black people around the world. Diversity relates to social welfare because social workers are taught to treat everyone in a respectful manner, even if their opinions don’t compare to yours. I treat people the same way that I want to be treated, but at times I unconsciously end up showing different behaviors around other people of color, even though I’m a person of color as well because society has created an image…

This summer a new movement came about called “Black Lives Matter.” This movement began in part because of the Michael Brown murder, which angered many Americans; specifically blacks.
