What Are The Effects Of Having Too Much Cholesterol In The Body

Cholesterol is made from the liver. It is one type of lipid or fat present in the membrane of cells in the body. It is normally carried in the blood by one type of molecules known as lipoproteins. You will realize that high levels of cholesterol causes atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease (CAD).Cholesterol is a white, crystalline and fat-like substance that is often in animal food products and tissues. Cholesterol is used in repairing cell membranes, producing hormones and vitamin D. It helps in creating bile salts that helps in digesting the fat. However, if you have too much cholesterol in your body, it can start to build up in your blood vessels that carry blood away from the heart. This can be detrimental to your body.
Two years ago, I was diagnosed with high blood pressure due to high cholesterol levels in my body. My life was in danger and I had to visit a doctor so that the problem can be mitigated. He explained the effects of having too much cholesterol in the body and how to minimize those levels. The following are some of the ways through which you can minimize cholesterol levels:

Reduce the intake of red meat.
Red meat usually have high cholesterol levels. However, white meat normally has low cholesterol levels. This is the reason why you should minimize the intake of red meat.
2. Replace all the saturated fats with low fat foods.
It is important that you replace all the saturated fats with low foods so that you can lower tour cholesterol levels. Some of the low fat foods include: skim milk, light cheese, baked chips and so on.
3. Increase the amount of fiber
You should take foods that are high in fiber such as whole grain cereals, fruits and vegetables. This will go a long way in removing the dietary fats and lower your cholesterol
