On September 11, 2001. America was changed forever when an unexpected terrorist attack on the World Trade Centers occurred. This day in history caused damage and fear to be placed in the heart of every American and even now people of this country are still experiencing the after effects of the tragic event. There were a total of 2,753 deaths between people in the towers, on the planes, and at the pentagon, none of them expecting this on a beautiful Tuesday morning (September 11th Fast Facts). On September 11th the world changed and the cause of it will never be forgotten. So much anger and heartbreak took hold of the nation and everything came to a standstill. On this day nothing else mattered but the tragedy taken place. The threat of terrorism arose from a subconscious state and came full force in a way that impacted every man, woman, and child witnessing 9/11. Nothing else could occupy the mind due to the fear overwhelming anything else going on. Terrorism seemed distant prior to the collapse of the towers, as though events like 9/11 could not happen to the country. Realization of the situation rose as did immense fear, anguish, and paranoid thoughts as a result from the attack. A survey conducted subsequent to 9/11 exhibits the actual impact on society. Homeland security has been on fortifying defenses relentlessly. They cannot afford another attack like that on the United states. The Department of homeland security stated, “More and more, state, local, and tribal law enforcement officers, as well as citizens, businesses, and communities are on the front lines of detection and prevention.”. It has been a nationwide effort to keep the people safe and the DHS has spent thirty-one billion dollars so far to protect and recover from terrorist attacks (Homeland Security). Much of that money has gone to funding technology advancements in security to prevent such terrible attacks or to catch those who attempt to do so.
Whether it be in the homeland security, emotions, or racial views in America, the attack of 9/11 has had an impact that will never wear off. The United States has suffered and the people have been broken down by terrorism and anguish but the country always comes back stronger and ready to fight and defend. Land of the Free and Home of the Brave cannot be removed from America and though tragedies have changed the country greatly in many ways, it
