Homers Iliad has been translated many different ways, yet the dialogue can still be interpreted to show very similar translations. Through the interpretations it is noticeable that Homer does not like war. Homer does not like war because war causes people suffer, and to lose their morals. Throughout History and Homers Iliad, wars have left families torn apart and emotionally weak. First , Homer shows emotional weakness through simile “like a beard lion whose cubs some deer hunter has smuggled out of the dense woods. The only thing that can be hurt from one “fleeing from death” is ones pride. Life is more important than pride. Homer just proves through the Iliad that family is more important than pride and riches. The Greek struggle of rescuing Hellen ( queen) should not have been a ten year war. It could have and should have been solved another way. To many people were effected by the war, a war caused by the Gods… Thousands of people died in this ten year war, because the capturing of one person. Some say that the Iliad is based off of Achilles and heroic honor and the but that is simply not the message of the Iliad. Yes Achilles is a big part of the book but its based off the trojan war, and how war effects people emotionally and physical, whilst still giving details about the war. Achilles is idolized for being a such a good warrior yet he has many down falls and weaknesses. Idolizing money over family members and trophies over morals, yet Achilles still shows signs of “bravery” and “loyalty”. But lacks heart, Achilles is a main part of the book because he had a big impact in the war, and because he's used to prove a point. No matter how great and honorable one is, everyone dies. His death effected all of
