With the constantly increasing population, American citizens would have to pay more and more in taxes each year to be able to pay for every person that wishes to receive free college tuition. Along with tuition free college would come a lot more people attending college, and campuses would have to expand and do renovations to accommodate for the large amount of additional people attending college. All these expansions and renovations will cost loads of money, which again would end up costing taxpayers even more money. For those families who don't have kids, or have kids who don't plan on attending college, they end up feeding tax dollars into something that will never benefit them. On the other hand, you have many rich families who can more than afford to send their kids to college, but now they get to reap the new benefits that should have been a benefit to low income families trying to get their kids an education.…

Some people argue that colleges should not be free because it would waste too much taxpayers’ money. I respect their thinking, but the thinking is incomplete. As taxpayers, we all pay taxes, so we should all have direct benefits. The reason why we pay taxes is to fund all the things what we need in society. Taxes are paid for the police, for the roads and for the social security etc.…

College tuition has been an ongoing discussion for many years now, while some might say this has no correlation to whether a student is going to complete their education or not, I think it plays a huge role. If free college tuition was an option it would greatly help those who cannot afford college, it’d help motivate students to actually want to go to college, and would help raise the overall IQ of citizens. Friedman in The World is Flat mentions what he calls the gap at the bottom. This is a particular group of students that free tuition would positively impact.…

Free tuition and no debt for students attending higher education within the United States seems like a terrific proposal, however, there are several hidden small prints that may result in certain disadvantages for Americans. Many colleges across the country already offer student loans and other scholarships for low-income families in order to provide accessible education. Moreover, if this plan turns into an official policy, expenses for federal and local governments will increase up to $75 billion annually, only in public universities and colleges. As a result of such expenditures, nationwide increases in taxes would be significantly reflected and Wall Street will be the central target. According to Michael Hiltzik, a reporter for Los Angeles Times in the article “How free college tuition would become a giveaway to the rich” he argues that,…

“If higher education at public schools becomes free, it might appear to devalue a college diploma. It might also lead to students cutting more classes or not trying because they don’t have to “get their money’s worth” when they aren’t paying for anything. The current price of college drives students to complete their schooling as quickly as possible so as to reduce debt. Without that financial drive, we might see more laziness and lackadaisical behavior from our students” (College Raptor). School is a necessary system worldwide to invest in a society 's future. The primary argument as to why educational institutions should be free in the U.S. is not to give everyone the equal opportunity to education as stated by Lawrence (a professor of History emeritus at SUNY Albany) although it is one of the reasons, the primary reason is to increase the number of educated workers to hopefully improve our economy. It is stated that an “educated work force has become an essential component of economic growth and competitiveness (Student Aid Alliance). However, college tuition filters out those who are not willing to pay for their education and also funds universities so that they are able to function and upgrade their facilities. College should not be free because it would lead to tax raises, the value of a degree would decline, and the overall quality of the educational environment would decrease.…
