Congress decided their current form of government, the Articles of Confederation, had many flaws. It was too weak to stop things such as Shay’s Rebellion. Because of this they organized a convention, many state representatives showed up, but some did not because they were pleased with how it was and didn’t want to change this. The people who were against changing the Articles of Confederation are called Anti-Federalists, and people that were for this are called Federalists. As a Federalist I believe the people of the United States should ratify the Constitution because we would fall to pieces without it.…
Citizens United is a political organization that aims in maintaining and restoring the ideals of the Founding Fathers. That is, they believe in containing a limited government, in which federal, state, and local governments do not rule their territories in an authoritarian way. The goal is to have a democracy in the United States that would continue to value and protect the views, beliefs, and voice of most American citizens. They represent many Americans by representing their voices.…
In the past there has been a lot of scenarios that caused the public to question the way our political system is operated. And these questions led to people going against our government in court. The type of political system that the U.S has is called a Democracy. According to American Government Today “ a system in which political authority is vested in the people”(p.8) This means that our political system gives us the right to choose what we want for our country. Without democracy we would not be allowed to do things such as vote for our president and propose laws.…
The Declaration of Independence was a dream, The constitution made it reality. Thomas Jefferson wrote the declaration of independence in 1776. And the constitution was written in 1787. Both in Philadelphia, which would become the home of liberty. And these documents, the foundation of liberty.…
Peaceful resistance to laws positively impacts a free society as it promotes the creation and the retention of a free country. Free societies are often considered more advanced than the oppressive ones because freedom is something that evolved out of oppression. Now, in the modern world, governments are more or less established, and for them to be changed, the people must act. Civil disobedience is woven through the fabric of the United States. The Revolutionary war granted the underdog colonies independence-- not just independence but freedom.…
The Constitution, ratified in 1787, gave the nation a significant structure for the three branches and laws of the United States government. The Constitution and the Bill of rights helped the United states achieve its goal of freedom, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The Bill of Rights, also known as the first ten amendments of the Constitution, allow the citizens basic legal rights. These rights appear everyday in basic life: they are in headlines of the newspaper, petitions, and in jury cases seen on TV. The Bill of Rights was created by federalists and antifederalists giving the people essential rights and privileges.…
The Constitution of the United States is the basic principles that serve as the framework for the system of government. Even though the Constitution has been around for two hundred years old now, it is relevant because without it we would not have the kind of government we have right now and how it affects each and every one of us daily. In addition, we would not be treated equally, some of our rights might be taken away, and we’ll face discrimination based on our ethnicity or race. Indeed, the Constitution is a living document that should be open to asses and improve as our country develop while keeping the main ideals that our state founded. For some people, they think that the Constitution is nothing but for some it’s a valuable gift that…
In the fifty first letter in the Federalist Papers, written by James Madison, it states, “If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary.” James Madison was the person that proposed the Bill of Rights, and this quote really shows why he did it. The Bill of Rights is there to protect the people from the government taking away their rights as humans. It is a way to keep the government in check and from turning tyrannical.…
The Bill of Rights is the collective name for the first ten amendments of the United Sates Constitution. They were written by James Madison in an attempt to bring peace and unity amongst the states. There was much dismay between the Federalists and the Anti-Federalists about whether a Bill of Rights was necessary. That was when Madison stepped in and drafted the Bill of Rights. The Bills Of Rights are more important to us today than when they were first created because they have given our country the stability that other countries lack.…
Religion teaches people how to use their freedom for the good of themselves and others. It is practically the sole means of counteracting the materialistic aspects of life by taking people’s minds beyond the physical, material aspects of life. Religion teaches men that being good is in their self interest because they will be rewarded in the afterlife. By working towards the common good rather than personal gain, people are forced to work together. Through these features of American democracy which de Tocqueville noted, Americans are able to balance individualism with the good of the community.…
The Unjust Declaring of Independence Throughout the short history of America, Americans have been told the tales of how the weak Americans overthrew their tyrannical oppressors against all odds to free the colonies that make the country that it is today. Millions of Americans celebrate on the fourth of July of the day which the second continental congress signed the declaration of independence which included statements which documented “a history of injuries and usurpations designed to establish an absolute Tyranny over these states.” (Jefferson, 1776) The colonists were not justified in declaring independence from Great Britain because all of their reasons were not reasonable, because in reality, the Taxes placed on American’s were justified…
In 1955, before the subsequent ban on the ANC by the National Party Government, the ANC put forth the Freedom Charter as the framework for an equal, deracialized South Africa. The key attributes of the Freedom Charter was the union of all races; White, Black, colored, Indian and Asian and popular governance as a key factor in post-Apartheid society. The all-encompassing nature of the freedom charter resonated with the disadvantaged racial categories within South Africa, and provided assurance to non-black races towards a better, fairer, future. Co-signed by the colored and Indian national congresses of South Africa, the Freedom Charter expressed the ideals of those discriminated against under apartheid, and bolstered ANC support across a broad…
On September 17th of 1787, a group of men to whom we call “The Founding Fathers,” wrote one of the most famous documents; The United States Constitution. The goal when writing the constitution was to help better American lives by creating a set of Ten Amendments that grant basic rights to all citizens. The Founding Fathers essentially took pieces out of other famous documents like those of The Magna Carta (1215), The English Bill of Rights (1689), and The Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom (1786) to help conserve rights to everyone (Hardy 8). As time went on, it became clear that the amendments originally written were not clear and the interpretation needed to be changed. “Overtime, Supreme Court justices began to follow one of two courses…
Natural rights are rights that we are born having, such as the right to live. These rights cannot be taken away unless we choose to form a moral government that follows the Social Contract. Only governments that are moral can follow the Social Contract. The people become the Body…
The constitution forbids the idea less consumption of our freedoms, in regards to our populist demands. That is why the constitution was drafted. In 1776 the constitution was placed in order to promote the common defense and promote general welfare. This encourages and purveys freedom. Ideally meaning open to circumvented and unrelated imperfections.…
