The Imbalance Of Yin Yang

Without the black or white keys on a piano, the sounds created will never be rich nor harmonious. Just like the keys, everything in life comes in duos. Without one another, the other can’t exist because together, duality forms a whole. Similarly, energy is needed during the day, but inactivity is necessary during the night to recharge. No human would survive deprived of warmth in the cold, but none would exist either if left without coolness in the heat. What may seem as opposite forces are in fact, interconnected and interdependent upon each other. In order to achieve harmony, Yin and Yang have to be balanced. Peering into myself, I notice that my Yin persona dominates while my Yang side is slowly trying to shine through from the inside. I feel the imbalance of Yin Yang in my everyday life as I struggle to balance my two personas.

My inner persona is Yang; I only show it to people very close to me and it changes my way of dealing with certain situations. For example, a trait that I acquire from the Yang side is confidence. I believe that if I put in hard work, I will accomplish great things, and I will achieve exceptional results. I crave for success, production and accomplishment in what I do. When it comes to displaying confidence in the world, I appear shy and Yin because I do not have enough Yang on the outside. Just recently, I worked hard for a music theory exam that is very crucial to my piano career. However, the results came back and I was devastated. I no longer felt confident in myself and I became emotionally erratic, another trait of Ying. However, I eventually overcame the fear of failure and disappointment in myself and continued on to retake the exam and stay optimistic. Optimism is a trait that I have always wanted in myself, because I admire people who can be so
